Required Browser Settings
The following browser settings are required for e-University to function properly. If you are encountering trouble using e-University, check to be certain that your browser is set up to meet the following requirements:
|
|
Currently supported browsers are Netscape® Navigator® 4.x and up and Microsoft® Internet Explorer 4+. Internet Explorer 6 is strongly recommended. Other browsers may work but are not supported. |
|
· |
Must accept session cookies. |
|
|
Cookies are used by e-University to maintain a logged on session for you between requests. If your browser does not accept the session cookie, e-University will continually prompt you to log on. The cookie name is ASPSESSIONIDxxxxxxxx, and its expiration is "end of session." Some browsers will allow you to accept session ("in memory") cookies while continuing to reject cookies that are written to the local disk. See your browser help for information on setting cookie options. |
|
· |
Must allow scripting and support JavaScript® |
|
|
JavaScript is used to open new windows for courses and lessons and is also used in the navigation buttons. The supported browsers listed above meet this requirement unless it has been specifically turned off by the user. |
|
· |
Browser must support frames. |
|
|
A frameset is used to separate the header, navigation, and content areas in WBT Manager. The supported browsers listed above meet this requirement. |
Student Log On
- Click the button on the navigation strip labeled Log On. The Student Log On screen appears.

- Type in your Student ID and Password in the spaces provided.
Be particularly careful in typing your password, since for security reasons, you will not be able to see what you have typed.
- Click the Submit button.
If you have typed the information correctly, you will see a screen confirming that you are logged on. This screen should be automatically replaced by the Student Menu screen. However, depending on how your system is set up, the window may be hidden at first by a new window called Account Maintenance. This window will usually disappear after a few seconds.
- If you made a mistake typing in your Student ID or Password, you will be given a chance to try again.
Recovering a Forgotten Password
If you have forgotten your password, e-University can email it to you. To recover your password follow these steps:
- On the Log On screen, click the “Forgot Your Password?” link. The Email Forgotten Password screen will appear.

- Type either your Student ID or your email address in the appropriate box.
- If you are an administrator, click the administrator account checkbox.
- Click the Submit button.
You will see a confirmation message. Your password will be emailed to the address that is on file with e-University.
Not Logged On Message
In order to control access to courses and your student information, all e-University pages require that the user be logged on with a valid User ID and Password.
If you are not correctly logged on, you will see an error message telling you so. This message is valid under the following circumstances:
|
· |
You have tried to jump directly to a page when not logged in. |
|
|
e-University does not allow you to view any of its internal pages unless you are logged in. |
|
· |
Your session has timed out. |
|
|
If the Web Server doesn't receive any requests from you for a long time, it will "time-out" (cancel) your session. It does this to recover server resources from abandoned sessions (sessions where the user did not log out properly). The default timeout period is 20 minutes. It can be adjusted by your Web site administrator if necessary. |
In the above cases, you should simply log back onto e-University.
About Courses and Lessons
A course typically covers a relatively large subject, such as "Emergency Procedures" or "Safety on the Job." Enrollment is done at the course level.
Courses are made up of lessons. Every course must contain at least one lesson, and most courses will have several of them. In some courses, lessons are organized into blocks that appear on student menus.
About Results Tracking
A lesson can send a number of different types of information to e-University for tracking. It can track any of the following information it receives from a lesson:
|
· |
time spent in the lesson |
|
· |
lesson status, such as incomplete, completed, passed, or failed |
|
· |
a bookmark if the student exits partway through the lesson |
Many lessons use only part of e-University’s tracking capabilities. Some may not send any information at all. You can check your scores, times, and statuses by using the Report feature.
About Lesson Status
Tracked results for e-University include a lesson status. The following are possible statuses that a student can obtain for a lesson.
|
· |
Not Attempted-indicates student has not started the lesson. There should be no time or score associated with this status. |
|
· |
Incomplete-indicates student has started the lesson. There should be a time associated with this status. Typically there will not be a score. |
|
· |
Complete-indicates the student has completed the lesson. It is typically used for unscored lessons. Unless the student is given credit for the lesson without actually taking it, there should be a time associated with this status. There will typically not be a score. |
|
· |
Passed-indicates the student has completed the lesson with a passing score. Unless the student is given credit for the lesson without actually taking it, there should be a time associated with this status. There will also typically be a score. |
|
· |
Failed-indicates the student has completed the lesson but failed to receive a passing score. There should be a time and score associated with this status. |
Logging Off
It is important to log off WBT Manager™ when you finish using it. Just closing your browser does not close your user session. Your session continues to use server resources until the session times out.
To log off, click the Log Off button in the navigation strip. A log-off confirmation message will appear, and the options in the navigation strip will change. You may now close your browser in the usual way.
